Review – Maybelline New York Dream Mousse Blush and Eye Shadow

I have recently had the pleasure of trying out some Maybelline New York Dream Mousse products for the cheeks and eyes.  They are, as the name suggests, a mousse consistency and do not dry into a powder form, but remain dewy.  I tested one blush and two colors of shadow.  There are pictures and swatches below, all swatches were one layer applied very sheer, but all colors can be built.

Maybelline New York Dream Mousse Blush no. 40 – Soft Plum

There are very few beauty products that I go bonkers for, and fewer that conger up the word bonkers, but this does.  For a drugstore brand of makeup, and really compared to any makeup, this Maybelline New York Blush is just flat out amazing.  I have the shade no. 40 – Soft Plum and I have already gone and gotten 2 more as back ups.  The blush applies effortlessly and creates a dewy flushed glow, that is flattering and not fake.  The major con of this product is that is super pigmented and easily applied way to heavily, however, in some books that can be construed as a plus.  The directions on the box say to apply your blush by starting on the edge of your cheek bone towards the ear then slowly work in towards the nose for a fresh vibrant look.  I use a synthetic brush by E.L.F to apply the blush and had no problems.  I stippled the brush into the product the tapped the excess of into the lid, to use on the other cheek and buffed away.  If I want a more matte look, I will set the blush with Estee Lauder Tender blush 323 – Fresh Plum, they were made for each other! This is my new go to blush, and will have a hard time reaching for anything other then this.  I don’t think Nars – Orgasm could pull me away from my Soft Plum.  The swatch I took of this did the color and consistency and effect, no favors.. boo!! I will try again in better lighting to give you a more true to life amazingness that this product consistently gives.

Maybelline New York Dream Mousse Shadow no. 50 – Lilac Cloud and no. 60 – Blue Heaven

image

The eye shadows I tried were in the shades no. 50 – Lilac Cloud and no. 60 – Blue Heaven.  These were a little tricky to apply.  Much more so then the blush.  They had a tendency to get flaky on the eye, but the way to avoid this was to use teeny tiny amounts of product and then build.  The colors are sheer – I mean really, really sheer.  The plus side to this, is that they make excellent eye shadow bases; so if you are not able to reach for your Painterly Paint Pot (thank you 10 under $10) then these are nice alternatives.

You can find Maybelline New York at most drugstores or big box stores.  I would recommend, most definitely, giving these products a go.  They are excellent value for the money and they make you look so darn nice.

Until next time!!
